Truly Healthy Living Recipes

All the “substitution” healthy living recipes are probably getting on your nerves. These are recipes that try to make unhealthy (and oh-so-delicious) foods healthy while remaining palatable. Nonetheless, candy bars aren’t made of lime extract, dates and peanuts. It will never happen. Dates and limes just won’t make a very good candy bar.

This can be very liberating once you realize it. In fact, you will discover how good healthy foods really are. Once you stop trying to make moist, delicious brownies out of cardboard, you can put your focus on making food that is actually good.

Here are some tips on how to make your own healthy living recipes that will leave you satisfied and sated:

Always stay in season
Seasonal food can be a luxury. You should always treat them that way. Seasonal fruits can always be engineered into delicious main courses or dessert parfaits. Try fresh peaches in summer, and sweet mandarin oranges in winter. Berries are a great way to greet spring, and crisp apples are ideal for fall. There is no need to not eat these the rest of the year, but if you eat them at the right time will really make them a treat.

Accentuate the positive
When eating healthy, stay away from all really heavily processed foods. Which of course means no pre-packaged foods. Homemade treats with fresh fruits are always so much better, and better for you, than those pre-packaged cakes and cookies. Then you can be so proud of yourself not only for eating right, but for also creating those healthy living recipes that are so delicious.

Concentrate on your family
You may not think this is really a recipe at first. Your food will taste so much better, when meals become family time rather than just about food. But, when your schedule doesn’t allow for regular family dinners, then just make your meal a time for self-reflection. Take some deep breaths and drink a good, healthy cup of green tea. Think about yourself and how your day was, while eating slowly. You will find that this makes meals a relief even when you are not eating the high-fat foods you may initially crave.

Healthy living is not just about food. Its a way of living. Truly effective healthy living recipes factor in every aspect of the meal, not just the sugar and preservative content.
